Vast Cliff

Vast Cliff is an installation composed of project mapping and page-turning machine which record the journey in Qinghai this year.

The projection and images are edited by Processing, and the machine is driven by Arduino.

The photos taken during the journey are stored in the installation, thus displaying the itineraries like a flashback.

Boasting an amazing variety of landforms, the sceneries and landscapes along the journey have constantly been changing. The depopulated zones, Yardang landform, Danxia landform, salt lake and geothermal spring, are vast and remote, beautiful and spectacular.

The works take the name of a town in Qinghai, Mangya. In Chinese, it can be literally interpreted as a vast cliff. Being surrounded by nature in a place far away from the noises and lights of cities is how it feels like. Moving across Qaidam Basin and standing on the cliff or flat, everything seems so boundless.
